'tis the season - spice rub gift

for holiday gifts, we've started giving friends some of cricket's famous rub. he uses it on his pulled pork, but it's good on rubbed on tenderloin, chicken breasts, or sprinkled on grilled veggies + anything else you put on the grill.
[the label for the jars]
over the past few weeks, we've gotten a few hints from last year's recipients about how they love it, use it all the time, are running low. hint hint. yeah yeah, we whipped up a batch of the super secret mixture this weekend and packaged it up for this year's gifts.

of course, it's packaged in mason jars. a little tissue paper + we have ourselves a gift.

  2. HI there! Any chance in sharing the recipe? We BBQ all the time and are having one for our wedding rehearsal dinner; I would LOVE to try a new rub to celebrate our new beginning with a new seasoning! If you want you can email it if you feel like sharing. THANK YOU in advance for even reading my reply and considering it. Happy Holidays! RyanandJersey@gmail.com

  8. I really wish I could get the recipe out of the hubs--I'd be happy to share it with y'all if he'd let me. From spying on him in the kitchen, I know there's garlic powder, smoked paprika, hot paprika (yep, both kinds...and don't mix 'em up or it'll be extra spicy), kosher salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, and maybe granulated onion. I guess I posted it mostly for the idea because it's been such a hit--you can use any rub you like and package as a nice gift. This size usually lasts our gift-getters a year, so they're ready for it next time the holidays roll around. There are lots of yummy rub recipes out there (check Alton Brown or the Big Green Egg forums for a start). I'd love to know if you find a favorite!

  10. Ingredients:

    ◾3 tablespoons brown sugar
    ◾2 tablespoons chili powder
    ◾2 tablespoons paprika
    ◾1 tablespoon cumin
    ◾1 tablespoon salt
    ◾1/2 tablespoon coriander
    ◾1 teaspoon thyme
    ◾1 teaspoon dried mustard
    ◾1 teaspoon garlic powder
    ◾1/2 teaspoon cayenne
    ◾1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Mix it all together really well – make sure to break up all the clumps of brown sugar. :D This makes enough to cover about 8 pounds of meat really well!
